THE REGION

Unique Surroundings with Saskatchewan Flare

The Yellowhead region is a 5,200 square-kilometre (2,000 square-mile) well-serviced area of economical, prime farmland and cattle country in the rolling aspen parkland of east-central Saskatchewan. It is strategically located along the Saskatchewan- Manitoba border in the fertile land between the Assiniboine and Qu'Appelle Rivers.

Primary Industry of Agriculture and Potash Mining
The robust economy of the area is based on its primary industries of agriculture and potash mining that are supported by a vibrant secondary manufacturing and service sector. Overall, the region is steadily strengthening as Canada's western economy continues to expand.

The towns of Esterhazy, Kamsack and Langenburg are the largest centres in the region with the cities of Yorkton and Melville immediately to the west. Regina, the provincial capital, and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan's largest city, are within easy driving distance. Winnipeg, the capital of Manitoba, is east of the area along either the Yellowhead Highway, which traverses the region, or the Trans-Canada Highway, which passes just south of the region.

Affordable, Well-serviced, Accessible, Convenient and More
The affordable Yellowhead and its towns and villages have a broad spectrum of businesses, schools, police, health and fire services, public and community amenities, sports and recreation groups, and arts and cultural organizations. Yorkton, the closest major regional centre outside the area, extends this range of services and includes large retail outlets.
